Working at Height Safety
According to the health and safety executive (HSE), falls from height are one of the biggest causes of workplace fatalities and major injuries. When working at height you need to comply with HSE regulations WAHR – the Work and Height Regulations 2005. WAHR is designed to prevent death or injury when falling from height.
What does work at height mean? Work at height means work in any place where, if there were no precautions, a person could fall a distance liable to cause personal injury. Before working at height you must follow 3 step set out by the HSE:
- Avoid work at height where possible
- Where work at height cannot be avoided, prevent falls using either an existing place of work that is already safe or the right type of equipment.
- Minimise the distance and consequence of a fall, by using the right type of equipment where the risk cannot be eliminated.
